We notice your attention has been flagging. Of course we could blame the endless tumblr memes and ficathons, but instead we'll entice you with something different: the unique purpose of this community. Yep, you could get your niche interests filled elsewhere but here you can discuss almost ANYTHING. Dredge up old beloved fandoms or strike up a conversation over something you didn't think anyone else had ever seen! If you're having a dry spell in your posting schedule or in your usual creative outlet (fics, graphics, mixes, what have you) this is the place to be for massive amounts of inspiration.

At the moment we'd love to get more completed prompts for our Television Theme and more requests. Remember everything is open for discussion until April 30th so it's never too late to join in. For now please grab some banners and promote at your own journal or reblog our posts on tumblr!

Aaaaaaand we're back! Unfortunately life has a way of interfering with definitively more important things, hence our overlong break. But just in time for the return of many a beloved show, we bring you a television theme. You'll have until April 30th to request or fill challenges (and we'd really love to see more completed prompts this go around). We'll also be making more reminder updates at our tumblr if you're in the habit of forgetting. Our full list of rules are in our FAQ, and below you'll find a list of possible mediums. But remember nothing is off limits!

Challenge 1: Premieres & Finales From the ones that blew your mind to the ones that just blew. Tell or show us the most memorable beginnings and endings of any season in any show of your choice.
Challenge 2: Waiting In The Wings How about that flawless secondary character that constantly gets put on the back burner? Wouldn't your show be a whole new game with them as the lead? This is your chance to explore what it would be like if you put that arrogant headlining prick in the background and brought your baby to the fore.
Challenge 3: Baby Come Back Everyone has a cherished arc or character that got dropped (unjustly!) by a series. Time to give them the completion they deserve—what would it be like if that subplot or that undersold person came back? Give them a miraculous return or act like it was never cut out in the first place.
Challenge 4: Love Child When television universes collide! Here we're encouraging you to give a show new life. What would your favorite ABC sitcom be like as an HBO production? What if Community and The Borgias leaked into each other? Or what if two characters from separate shows actually had a love child? Get creative, folks.
Challenge 5: Miniseries As straightforward as it gets: focus on any quality of a miniseries. Whether it was wildly popular or completely sidelined, give us a taste of what makes this format so great.

Would you look at that, the long-awaited masterpost. There were only six (SIX) fills in total this time, despite the brilliant prompts. Let's try to make the next theme more lively folks! If you've completed a prompt or made anything for the ljrevival Film Theme that isn't listed here, let us know in a comment and we can add it. Read more...Collapse )

For our second theme we give you: film! In this post you'll find brand new challenges dedicated to this theme. You have until March 11th to request or enter as many items as you want and earn points toward a bonus community prize. Prompts can be filled or claimed by multiple people in any fashion they chose (the full list of rules are in our FAQ). Below are a list of acceptable mediums, but keep in mind that nothing is off limits.

Challenge 1: The Black ListNot every film that deserves to be made actually becomes a reality. In fact, some years churn out a pretty paltry batch of "best films" while mountains of good and interesting work remains untouched. Take a look at the black list of unproduced scripts from previous years and show us what you'd do with them. Cast them, stage them, take us along the journey that any other film would take. You are the producer, so it's all up to you!
Challenge 2: Prequels & SequelsThose sequels that never seem to end... or the ones you were waiting for that never happened. Prequels and sequels can be a torture or a blessing, a success or an absolute disaster. Any films where you preferred a prequel or sequel to the original? Where a terrible spinoff tainted how much you enjoyed the first film? Or, of course, films where you're dying to know what happens next.
Challenge 3: B Movie MadnessWe all have our guilty pleasures that we just can't walk away from. Now is the time to spread the love—demonstrate what makes your favorite b movie so great; why you're drawn to it over and over again; why we should throw our good tastes to the wind and actually watch this pile of junk that you cherish so dearly.
Challenge 4: Scenery & DesignHopefully this challenge is self-explanatory. Show or tell us about costumes that made your fingers itch, sets that took your breath away, props and all those environmental details that made your mouth water.
Challenge 5: Behind The ScenesThis challenge is similar to our Element Swap from last month. Plan an alternate universe for a film where only what goes on behind the scenes is different. We're not looking for Billy Elliot set in space, we're looking for Billy Elliot directed by Woody Allen or, better yet, Elia Kazan. Change anything from the cast to the time it was made, just don't touch that plot!

To make sure everyone gets a chance to appreciate their fellow members' work we will be making masterposts for our monthly themes. If you've completed a prompt or made something of your own imagining inspired by ljrevival let us know in a comment and we can add it to the list. REMEMBER! You still have until February 11th to request and fill prompts! Read more...Collapse )

To christen this community with its first theme, we bring you: books! The very thing that shaped our young, impressionable minds and brought us here in the first place, the internet bubble where we still haven't learned to stop worshipping words. In this post you'll find a series of challenges you can apply to the theme. You have until February 11th to request or enter as many items as you want and earn points toward a bonus community prize. Prompts can be filled or claimed by multiple people in any fashion they chose (the full list of rules are in our FAQ). And to get the ball rolling, directly below you'll see all manner of acceptable mediums. But remember: absolutely nothing is off limits! If you want to choreograph a dance to fill a challenge, you go and do that.

Challenge 1: Book CoversScrew the proverb, always judge a book by its cover. When you think of iconic book covers, which come to mind? Ever held out for that one anniversary edition that fit the atmosphere of the story completely? Better yet, are you pining for a re-issue because your favorite book has a cover too horrendous for words? And—we've all been there—which book covers did you try desperately to cover with your sleeve, lap, anything just to avoid being seen reading it?
Challenge 2: Prologues & EpiloguesThe prologue or epilogue that broke your heart, or... the one that ruined it all. Tell or show us what made them stand out to you. Know of a book that could've used a tidy prologue or epilogue (for your sanity)? Or what about that prologue or epilogue that, with a simple tweak, would've made the arc absolutely perfect?
Challenge 3: Minor CharactersRaise your hand if you're guilty of loving a minor character more than the protagonist at one point in your life. Oh, is that everyone? GREAT. Which character was it that shattered your heart, made you laugh, swoon, or clutch the book to your chest? The character that you just needed to know more about—worlds more than what the text ever gave you.
Challenge 4: The "Fixer Upper"No literature is free of flaws, and some seem to hit every checkmark on the Ways To Offend list. What could you do to a story (be it loved or despised) that could feasibly patch up its problems? We could whinge all day about the issues and why they're problematic, but how would you fix them?
Challenge 5: Element SwapWonder what your favorite story would be like in the year 3018? Or in space? With amazing baking skills instead of magic? If a major character traded their spot with a villain? Pick one thing about a story you'd love to replace and share how the narrative could grow or change.
